The Upper French Broad River

Starting Memorial Day weekend new all inclusive packages go into effect. Click here for details.

This section of the French Broad is perfect for folks that have rafted the beginners section. Whitewater RaftingFilled with class II's and III's, it's about 4 hours long with lunch on the river. You'll have your own personal guide in every boat, which is great when you go over Frank Bell rapids which is a big class IV shown above. Don't worry, everybody floats with a life jacket.

This river is free flow so it runs all the time, but you only have as much water as nature provides it. Spring and early Summer is usually the highest water level, summer medium to low, and autumn is typically the lowest. Of course rainfall makes the difference here, and if it just rained a lot the day before your trip, it won't matter what time of the year it is you'll have fun.

In this Saddle n Paddle, your trip starts off in the camping cabins the first night, then after breakfast we take you to Blue Ridge Rafting, our company of choice on this upper section. Your raft trip will start around 10:30 am, and conclude around 3:00 pm. We will pick you up and bring you back to the ranch, where you will head up the mountain on your horse for the great get away to see the mountains in the Great Smoky National Park.

Price: $189.00 for each guest

You can't beat these deals anywhere else-check the Internet and you'll see!

The Big Pigeon River

This river is for the whitewater enthusiasts or thrill seekers. Loaded from start to finish with class III's and IV's, you'll be lucky to hang on through some of these rapids. Dam controlled, the Big Pigeon is subject to certain guaranteed release schedules. The guaranteed days are Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. If rainfall is sufficient in the area, other days can be included.

As this is part of the Saddle n Paddle, your trip starts off heading up the mountain on your horse for the great get away to see the mountains in the Great Smoky National Park. After a hearty breakfast we ride back down through the Gillot Hollow (pronounced "holler" in the mountains) which is similar to a rain forest. After lunch we take you to Big Pigeon Rafting, our company of choice on that river. Your raft trip will start around 1:30 p.m., and conclude around 3:00 PM We will pick you up and bring you back to the Ranch, where you will need that Steak Supper to get your strength back up. That night you'll be in the Camping Cabin, and after breakfast your trip will be complete.

Price: $169.00 for each guest

Definitions of Classes

CLASS I

This rapid can be described as a 1-2 foot drop in a river or a continuous number of small drops or one foot waves. These rapids are the easiest kind of whitewater, and can be great fun for families.

CLASS II

This type of rapid would be about a 2-3 foot drop or continuous drops or two foot waves. The class two rapid is usually the safest (everyone stays in the boat) of the whitewater higher levels, and is very enjoyable.

CLASS III

This rapid is the most common rapid in most higher class rivers. It is more dangerous than the previous class, but is more fun at the same time. About a 3-4 drop in a river, or continuous drops and waves of three foot waves. There is a higher degree of chance for rafters to come out of the boat in this class, so beginners should have a guide in the boat to correctly navigate this type of whitewater.

CLASS IV

We recommend that beginners should not raft in this type of water until they have experienced a class III raft trip, or be extremely good swimmers. This class is dangerous not only because of the drop-off up to 5 feet, but the undertow that may exist. Only rafts with fully trained guides should attempt this type of rapid. Usually the age limits are higher for this type of whitewater.
